Junior Cycle

Moyle Park College offers a broad and comprehensive curriculum affording each student the opportunity to identify his academic strengths and interests. The Junior Cycle will provide students with learning opportunities that achieve a balance between learning subject knowledge and developing a wide range of skills and thinking abilities. The curriculum will promote a focus on active and collaborative learning. In particular, learners will be enabled to use and analyse information in new and creative ways, to investigate issues, to explore, to think for themselves, to be creative in solving problems and to apply their learning to new challenges and situations.

Subjects are designed to support the further development of effective teaching, learning and assessment practice. The inclusion of short courses and other learning experiences in junior cycle programmes also provides a valuable opportunity to broaden students’ learning and skill set.

The school hosts a range of Information Evenings from 1st to 3rd Year. Parents are informed of the various procedures and practices in place in the College. Student motivation and challenges are discussed along with study tips and skills.

The school also hosts a subject choice Information Evening for 3rd Year and TY Parents to help with subject selection for Leaving Certificate. The Career Guidance teacher will be in attendance on the night to help with any queries parents may have. The Subject Option Bands are directly influenced by the students’ requests each year.

Junior Certificate School Programme

We also offer JCSP, a curriculum framework that assists schools and teachers in making the Junior Certificate more accessible to young people who may be socially or academically marginalized or at risk of early school leaving. It attempts to help young people experience success and develop positive self-image by providing a curriculum and assessment framework suitable to their needs. On completion of the programme students receive a profile which is an official record of their achievements from the Department of Education and Skills.
