This year the ski trip went to the Italian Dolomites to the ski resort of Lavarone. We had 47 students and five teachers in the group made up mainly of beginners but also a small group of senior students who had skied before.
It was a most successful and enjoyable trip for all that took place over the spring mid- term break. We flew into Milan and transferred to hotel du lac in Lavarone. We had lessons for four hours every day and in between times we could free ski with our teachers until the lifts stopped.
Over the week we also went bowling, tubing and also along with seven other Irish schools there we went to a Disco which was one of the highlights of the trip. On the last evening some of our group did a torchlight ski down from the top to the village.
We were transferred each day on the ski bus and brought back each evening for our evening meal which was well appreciated after a tough day on the slopes. All the group by the end of the week were able to get the lifts to the top and ski down on the blue runs and even some beginners had progressed enough to take the tougher reds or even the black run down.
Well done to all, especially the senior students who led by example.
Thank you also to the teachers (Miss Quigley, Miss Lacey, Mister O Shaughnessy and Mister Doyle) who gave of their time to enable what was a wonderful week learning the lifelong and healthy pastime of skiing.
Next years trip will see a return to Lavarone but with a change of hotel which has direct access to the slopes.
