Athletics

Coach: David Kennedy

In recent years the Moyle Park College Athletics team has enjoyed considerable success both in cross-country and track and field. We are very lucky to be able to avail of a large area of pitches which allows our students to train for both long and short distances. The main philosophy of the team is to encourage students of all ability levels to take part and enjoy the sport.

The West Leinster Cross-Country Championships, held every year in Phoenix Park, has become a happy hunting ground for Moyle Park as numerous medals have been won at all age grades. The school was particularly proud of this year’s senior team who claimed a silver in an extremely competitive race. It was also great to see a very strong first year team show huge potential in the minor race.

The Track and Field Championships in Santry are always the highlight of the athletics calendar. Every year Moyle Park brings a large team of athletes who compete in a wide range of events including sprints, relays, long distance and high jump. We are developing a proud tradition in sprinting with a number of students winning gold medals over the shorter distances. Louis O’Loughlin, who has recently graduated, has been one of Ireland’s most decorated schools athletes over the past 6 years having won numerous All Irelands in both cross-country and track.

The Athletics team is always looking for new members and any students interested in getting involved are very welcome to attend training which is held every Wednesday after school.
